Parent health screening
Breeding dogs are evaluated with breed-appropriate health testing before they are paired for a litter.
Farmhouse Sausages
Our commitment to thoughtful breeding, preventive care, and healthy beginnings.
Families should not have to guess what health means. Here is a practical view of what we screen, how puppies are monitored, and what information we are glad to share before you make a decision.
4 commitments
Breeding dogs are evaluated with breed-appropriate health testing before they are paired for a litter.
Pairings are considered with known breed risks in mind so we can make informed, responsible decisions.
Our vet helps guide prevention, litter checks, puppy exams, and any care decisions that need professional input.
Puppies leave with age-appropriate care completed and clear instructions for the next stage with their family.
Our daily protocol
The commitments families can expect at every stage of a litter's life — what we watch, when, and why it matters.
Before pairing
Health, temperament, structure, pedigree, and family fit all matter before we decide whether a pairing makes sense.
Newborn care
Puppies are monitored closely for nursing, weight gain, warmth, comfort, and early development.
Health records and parent testing details can be reviewed with serious families. If a specific result matters to you, ask us directly and we will explain what we have, what it means, and what your own vet may want to review.
Three principles we share with every family before a puppy ever goes home.
If you want to understand a parent result, contract note, vaccine timing, or breed-specific concern, we would rather talk through it clearly.
Health testing reduces risk and improves decision-making, but no breeder can ethically guarantee a puppy will never have a health issue.
A thoughtful foundation
This summary is provided for convenience and does not replace the full Health & Purchase Agreement, which will be reviewed and signed at puppy pickup.
Puppies are sold as family companions with limited AKC registration. Breeding is not permitted unless specifically agreed upon in writing.
Growth weeks
As puppies grow, we introduce normal household sounds, gentle handling, surfaces, visitors, and routines at the right pace.
Go-home
Families receive practical care notes, feeding guidance, and a reminder of what to schedule with their own veterinarian.
We encourage families to schedule their own vet visit soon after go-home so care continues smoothly.
Puppies receive age-appropriate veterinary care and vaccinations prior to going home. Buyers must have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within 3 days of pickup to activate the initial health guarantee.
A two-year genetic health warranty is provided against debilitating congenital conditions covered under the terms of the full Health & Purchase Agreement. Common stress-related puppy illnesses are not covered.
Puppies must be spayed or neutered by 12 months of age unless otherwise advised in writing by a licensed veterinarian. Proof is required.
If a buyer is ever unable to keep their dog, the dog must be returned to Farmhouse Sausages or rehomed only with prior written approval.
Buyers agree to provide proper care, nutrition, veterinary care, and to help prevent injury, with particular attention to the spine and joints common to the dachshund breed.
